Give Me A Break
1 Peter 2: 22-23 “He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth.” When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead he entrusted himself to him who judges justly.
It is often puzzling how we allow our peace to be interrupted so abruptly. One minute we’re on top of the world, everyone loves us and we are skipping to life’s beat. The next we are being verbally attacked and insulted. I’ve often stood in astonishment as to how this can occur so quickly and why. Why do we give people control over our feelings and responses? Why do we allow the sometimes hurtful words of others to lead us into conversation that is not beneficial to either party?
As believers, we have to learn not only to watch what we say and do, we also have to watch how we respond to the words and actions of others. If we are not careful, we will no longer be seen as a motivator or inspiration to others. We start sounding like a clanging symbol all over again.
In today’s scripture we find that Jesus entrusted himself to him who judges justly. Jesus only trusted His father with his feelings and his emotions. He did not have confidence that anyone else would truly understand how he felt. When insulted, he did not sin or retaliate; he simply gave His feelings to the Lord, because he knew that only God could handle it completely.
Today, I invite you to give yourself a break! Stop holding confidence in people who you know are not capable of handling all the responsibility that you are trying to place on them.
In giving yourself this break, you free them up as well! May your relationships be grounded in love!
