Painfully Obvious

There comes a point in every conflict when you have to decide what your next move will be. You can choose to resolve it or to transform it. Conflict Resolution is the process of alleviating or eliminating your issues by any means necessary. When you resolve an issue, you take immediate action to stop the discomfort.

On the other hand, Conflict Transformation is the intentional act of analyzing a problem with the expected outcome of fully understanding all of its working parts. When you make a choice to transform, you are looking for opportunities of growth.

So what will it be for you? Resolution or Transformation?

Are you at a point in your life where you don’t understand why situations played themselves out like they did? Maybe you are seeking clarity in a tough decision or expecting validation from someone you love. Whatever it is for you, has it become painfully obvious that a change is necessary? Are you on the cusp of peace but surrounded in conflict and unsure which way you should go?

In the Book of Acts, the jailer who was watching over Paul and Silas found himself in a troubling predicament. As he slept, there was a violent earthquake and the doors of the jail flung open. This jailer was prepared to take his own life because he thought all the prisoners had escaped. In his crisis moment, he could only think of a short-term solution.

In The Little Book of Conflict Transformation, John Paul Lederach, gives us several practical points to consider that will help us develop a deeper capacity for transforming our conflicts.

  1. Develop a capacity to see presenting issues as a window: A transformational approach requires that we develop a capacity to see the immediate situation without being overwhelmed. We have to avoid the urgency to resolve and develop the ability to see beyond the present issue.
  2. Develop a capacity to integrate multiple time frames: We have to think and act without being bound by the constraints of a short-term view of time. Instead of constantly working in crisis mode, we can become more intentional in our actions by developing strategies and processes with different views of time (short-term and long-term) that allow us to create a more peaceful existence.
  3. Develop the capacity to pose the energies of conflict as dilemmas: Oftentimes we experience multiple conflicts all at once and it becomes necessary to simultaneously deal with them. We have to develop language and dialogue that is all-inclusive. We have to find ways to develop a deeper desire for peace in the midst of our trouble.

Paul and Silas understood the greater purpose that was at work and they spoke out and said, “do not harm yourself, we are here. Because of their willingness to transform the conflict, multiple dilemmas were resolved.

  1. The Jailer and his family found Jesus and were saved.
  2. Paul and Silas did not have to compromise their beliefs. They continued worshipping God in freedom and in captivity.
  3. God’s word stood firm all on its own. Paul and Silas didn’t have to craft an escape plan simply because the doors flew open. They understood there was greater work to be performed.

P.R.A.Y.E.R.

When your Peace is disturbed, it’s easy to lose focus of your goals and fall into a system of making bad choices. There’s something about being aggravated, discontent and stressed out that can cause a person to spiral out of control.

It happens to us all at times, we are only human. We all have free will and emotions that play a significant part in how we respond to situations.

I’ve grown to understand that life hands us victories and lessons in every situation that we face. Even if things didn’t work out in our favor there is a victory to celebrate as well as a lesson to learn from it.

It’s extremely important to do some analyzing and uncover the victories and the lessons. By doing so we are stocking our prayer toolbox with powerful ammunition to fight our spiritual battles.

As the Word of God says, “we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”

In the book Fervent, A Woman’s Battle Plan for Serious, Specific and Strategic Prayer, Priscilla Shirer discusses the top 10 strategies that the enemy uses to throw us off of our game.

He attacks our Passion, our Focus, our Identity, our Family, our Past, our Fears, our Purity, our Pressures, our Hurts and our Relationships. If we do our work and prepare for battle, we are then better equipped to stand against the schemes. You are well aware that the enemy doesn’t have any new tricks, he uses the same old material.

As Priscilla says, you have to pray God’s Word back to him and allow him to respond to it according to his own will.

Purpose Driven Work

We are often blessed with the privilege of helping others during their challenging times. Our communities are filled with neighbors who have fallen due to challenging circumstances. We have the homeless population, domestic abuse victims and veteran affairs just to name a few. What may seem like an act of service to us is actually an opportunity of growth.

How awesome would it be if we were more intentional in choosing the areas of service where we work? Could we make a bigger impact or maybe discover a new way to serve the community?

Helping others, starts with helping yourself first. If we self-reflect on those painful events from our past, and how we were able to overcome them, we might find out that we are the solution to someone else’s problem.

It’s a fact that we all have gifts and talents that are to be used to create peace on earth.

Have you unwrapped your gift? Have you discovered your talent?

Think about it. In Romans 12:18 the Word says, “If it is possible, As far as it depends on me, live at peace with everyone.”

Your gifts and talent make peace possible.

Within each of us are existing problems and possible solutions. Share your solution!

Let Him Finish the Work

Philippians 1:6 NKJ-being confident of this very thing that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;
Life is full of processes, tasks and things to do. Some of these experiences will be pleasant while others will require a lot of energy to accomplish. When those challenging tasks come our way, we may be tempted to give up, quit or even fuss because we’re having to experience difficulty. I’ve learned that fussing, quitting and giving up only leave us incomplete. If we are going to grow and advance in life, we have to follow the process and do the work that is required. When we allow ourselves to give up we are not allowing Jesus to complete that which he started in us.
You may be familiar with titles such as; Happy Women Live Better by Valorie Burton and The Well-Spoken Woman by Christine K. Jahnke. It’s my belief that in order to live better we will first experience some bitter situations and to become well-spoken we may first be a little misrepresented and unclear.
How will we progress? We will let Jesus finish the work that he began in us.
As the bible says, “to one he gave five bags of gold, to another two bags, and to another one bag…each according to his own ability. You’ve been gifted according to your ability. Nothing that you face will be too hard for you to accomplish, you simply have to put in the work in order to see the results. Some of the results that you can expect to see by completing your work include:
1. Personal development
2. Better relationships
3. Higher Self-Esteem
Aren’t you ready for better? If so, allow Jesus to complete his work in you.
“If Jesus gives us a task or assigns us to a difficult season, every ounce of our experience is meant for our instruction and completion. If only we’ll let him finish the work” -Beth Moore

No Longer A Servent

John 15:13 NKJV No longer do I call you servants for a servant does not know what his Master is doing; but I have called you friends for all things that I heard from my Father I have made known to you.

Dear Lord,

Thank you for calling me friend. I am so grateful that you have chosen to share your life with me. It is because of your belief in me that I can walk in confidence knowing that you trust me with the will of your Father and that you have given me specific purpose into your plans for my life. I thank you that you have left nothing to chance but you have hand-crafted every situation that I will encounter. I thank you that all things concerning me are deliberate an intentional. I feel confident knowing that those things are working for good in my life. Even in trying times I trust you and as your word says, weapons will be formed but they will not prosper in my life. I am grateful that you love me enough not to leave me in my current state and that I am getting stronger and wiser in you with each passing day. Lord you have been so good to me and I love you. Thank you for giving me the gift of friendship and teaching me how to be a true friend.

With humility, open-mindedness and willingness, I will collaborate with you on this day.

In Jesus name.

There is Peace in your Purpose

I Corinthians 14:33 “For God is not the author of Confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints.”

There’s power in your purpose.

What could be better than being in tune with God’s thoughts about your life and actually doing the work that he has called you to perform.

There’s peace in your purpose.

Imagine having clear vision, intentional actions and a desire to please God! What could be more peaceful?

There’s position in your purpose

Now imagine a purpose unfulfilled. Think about the countless number of people who would be unable to fulfill their purpose simply because you chose not to fulfill yours.

That’s how it is. There’s community and fellowship in each purpose. Your next door neighbor could be dependent upon you or it could be someone on the other side of the world. Whatever the case may be, our purposes are connected.

Eliminate the confusion by serving your purpose. God would never give you an assignment that he hasn’t gifted you to fulfill. God wouldn’t confuse you like that. You are well equipped to handle any assignment that has been sent your way.

You have a purpose to fulfill and your purpose is connected to others.

Do you work and serve your purpose.

Act Like You Know!

Colossians 2:6-7 NKJ “As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.”

This event did not catch you by surprise. You were made for this! Yes you oh child of God, you can handle it. I know for sure that you can handle it because as the scripture says, you were rooted  built up and then established in the faith! You’ve been taught how to survive extraordinary circumstances so go ahead and give God praise!

Are you asking yourself, what is the “this” that I was made for? If so, let’s define “this” as anything that sets itself up in your path to break your focus, hinder your purpose or delay your blessing.

Your prayers and frustrations have given you access to God’s delivering power in a whole new realm. Your prayers have  rooted you and your cries to God have built you up for this specific event at this particular moment. It is time to walk in confidence being assured that  your “this” will not take you out and it will work in your favor.

Circumstances come to test our faith but Jesus came to root us, build us and establish us in the faith.

I dare you to go ahead and thank God for the lesson and the blessing that your “this” sent your way!
