Coming to the Stage

“Life can hand you a fist full of sorrow and a heart full of hurt.
However, God is concerned about your state of mind. Your feelings matter to Him and He is genuinely interested in those issues that concern you. Remember in the book of Genesis, God
visited Adam in the cool of the evening. The same love that was extended to Adam is available
to you.

Every battle and struggle we contend with has already been settled in Heaven.
I pray that you use God’s word to achieve success, peace, and empowerment in your daily life.
May this book serve as an instrument for you to pray the Word of God and not pray your worries to Him”.

$20 Billion Climate Agenda, Make My Energy Clean & My Resources Renewable!

Prayer:

Today I am most grateful for community. Thank you, Lord, for placing me in the minds of people who have my best interest at heart and will pray for me and my family when prompted. I’m thankful for the prayer warriors that you have positioned in my life to help me advance and move forward when things feel stagnate and stuck. Thank you for forward motion and uncommon favor. In Jesus Name. Amen.

Self-Care Tip of the Day:

Don’t be hard on yourself when you’re having a bad day. It might sound silly but apologizing to yourself when you are too hard and too critical is the perfect way to reset the course of your day. If you’re having trouble forgiving yourself for some of your past discrepancies, write down what you would say to yourself, then go to a mirror and read it out loud.

Value:

Community the value of community promotes health and wellbeing. Our minds are relational and affected by the quality of our social connections. Community is built through acts of intentionality, vulnerability, and creativity. Community is linked to social trust, positive belief in humanity and a belief that most people are fair, helpful and trustworthy.

Daily Professional Goal:

Today I will make at least one new business connection.

In the news:

As part of President Biden’s historic climate agenda, VP Kamala Harris and EPA Administrator Michael Regan announced $20 billion in awards to expand access to clean energy, climate solutions and lower energy costs for communities across the nation.

Are you a small consulting company interested in doing work that is meaningful? Do you have the skillset to help push this climate agenda forward? If so, clean energy might be the solution that you are looking for. According to reports work is needed in low-income communities and communities of color to reduce pollution and create new jobs. Find out more by clicking here.

Tips for advancement:

When was the last time you flipped through your old business cards and made a new connection? Place all your business cards in a pile, then close your eyes and choose one card. After you’ve made your selection, call the number, introduce yourself and your business. If you recall how you obtained the business card, share this information (networking event, conference or expo). If the timing feels right, you could even set up time for coffee and conversation to make a deeper connection.

Growth Potential

All the women in me are tired. ~nayyirah waheed

According to an article in CNBC ChangeMakers, Black women are the fastest-growing group of entrepreneurs in the U.S.

Joy Ofodu is quoted in the article as saying, “To me, the rise of Black women entrepreneurs means we’re starting to believe in ourselves more, that we’re finally recognizing how limitless we are.”

I totally agree with Ofodu. Traumatic workplace experiences are leaving black women longing for a different work reality. In many cases, we love our job, and have become extended family with our team members, but the overall culture can leave many of us, me included, with a sour taste in our mouths.

When I left my last corporate position in late 2023, I was completely wiped out. I was striving but not making any traction. The requirements of my position were frequently changing and I felt disconnected from the work. I felt like I did not have room to think, show up authentically and use my strengths and values to deliver good results. I was an exhausted mess! Luckily for me, I had been building my company, Origins of Peace, LLC and my brand, Peace by Design for the past several years.

I’ve been through cohort after cohort that focuses on creating your mission statement, creating goals and objectives, and developing a business plan. I’ve completed the necessary requirements for a start-up company too many times, and I have no capacity to do it again!

Many of the current offerings of cohorts offer the same thing, and they want you to stay a novice and sign up for their program. From what I’ve experienced in some cases people get offended when you want more or when you decline to accept their offer for the basics.

Let’s move past the basics, WE ARE PROFESSIONALS!

The current business model of my company has been in operation since February 2019. Yes, I recently celebrated five years as a Conflict Resolution Coach with Origins of Peace. If you are tired of signing up for the basics, it’s time to live, love, learn & work with peace. Origins of Peace, LLC can help you do that.

I have a coaching program called Peaceful Profits where you and I take an in-depth look at your business model and figure out how to accelerate your growth potential and run a viable, profitable and sustainable business that you can be proud of.

My company motto is, “you cannot find peace in a place that you do not trust.” Allow me to help you work through your current conflict to find peace on the other side. I would love to set up a discovery call so we can talk through your current needs. My calendar link is below, you choose the date, and I will take it from there.

In Good Health

Dear Lord,

Thank you for this day. Thank you for another opportunity to rise and be great. Today I am most thankful for the gift of good health. With so much sickness surrounding me Lord, I thank you for the ability to move without pain, to bend without breaking and to breathe with ease. I thank you that my lungs can expand to full capacity and that my mind can think and reflect easily. Good health is an attribute of success, and I am happy to find success in this way. As I move throughout my workday, help me to keep these things at the forefront of my mind. This is my prayer. In Jesus’ Name. Amen

Grow My Faith

Psalm 94.19 NASB – When my anxious thoughts multiply within me, your comfort delights my soul.

Dear Lord,

Thank you for another opportunity to grow in faith. Thank you for your new mercies, your support and your grace as I rise and enter this day. Lord it is only because of you that I am here. This morning, I ask you to touch my mind and my heart so that I may be still and rest in your love. Help me to see that your timing is perfect for me and more than enough. Help me to be confident within myself, knowing that you have put me together with everything that is good and perfect. Thank you for the opportunity to be bold, to be sure, to be intentional and most of all, thank you for providing opportunities for me to be dependent on you. Not by my might or strength Lord, but only because of you. My faith is fully in tune with your will for my life. Help me to see it through. I love you and I thank you. In Jesus’ Name I pray. Amen

~When we water anxious thoughts and give them life by clinging to them, we allow them to take root in our minds and grow.

Reconnecting with You

Reading is an excellent way to gain new perspectives and insights. During the first quarter of 2024, I am reading several books to assist me with curbing procrastination, embracing authenticity and effectively managing negative emotions. Since the first core value of Origins of Peace is Mentality Clarity, it is only right that I take this time to gain insight and share the valuable knowledge that I hope to gain, with you.

To start with, “The 12 Week Year” is a great choice for anyone looking to improve their productivity and overcome procrastination. The book provides a practical framework for setting goals and achieving them within a shorter timeframe, which can help you stay focused and motivated.

“The Courage to Be Disliked” is a unique self-help book that draws on the principles of Adlerian psychology to encourage readers to embrace their own individuality and let go of the need for external validation. This can help you develop a more authentic sense of self and build stronger relationships with others.

Lastly, “Managing Negative Emotions” is a valuable resource for anyone looking to cultivate a more positive mindset. The book provides practical strategies for dealing with difficult emotions such as anxiety, anger, and depression, which can help you feel more balanced and resilient.

If you find any of the titles that I’ve shared interesting, please let me know, and I will set up a virtual book club for us. Happy reading!

Faith Fuels the Vision

I am definitely one of those people who require more than a board to document my vision.

Years ago, I began creating various tools to document the vision that I could clearly see for myself.

Over the years my vision has progressed from a vision board to a vision tracker, a vision portfolio and most recently a vision station.

I’ve learned that visions are the springboard of all that awaits if we have enough discernment to nurture the vision and do the uncomfortable things to see it progress.

Have you documented your vision for 2024? If not, there’s still time to set your intentions for the new year.

Now is the prime time to declare what you want for each area of your life going forward and the good news is that you can be as basic, or as detailed as you would like, it is totally up to you.

I tend to lean toward the detailed side simply because every aspect of my life is important to me. The work that I do, all the way down to the social activities that I indulge in, it all has meaning.

With Christmas and New Years fast approaching, schedule some downtime to pause, reflect and create your vision.

If you’re in the Charlotte Metro area, the perfect opportunity to create your vision is happening today.

Join The International Center for Wellness and Inspire of the Carolina’s Inc. for a Prayer Board Workshop. You are invited to participate in this safe space of healing and creativity!

You can bring your board or use the supplied materials.

This event is in partnership with Central United Methodist Church Concord, and it takes place on Sunday, December 17th at 3pm sharp.

Please enter at 75 Church Street Concord NC. Do not go to the Union Street entrance please.

I’m making plans to be there, so I hope you will join the fun too. If you come, be sure to say hi!

Peace & Blessings,

Melissa

Swinging and Humming

💫 Last week was full of insight for me. With the constant going, pushing and striving to do more, be more, create more and get booked more, I hit a wall.

I found myself way past exhaustion. I could barely hold my head up.

After a much need coaching session (yes, coaches need coaching too), I took time to identify what was challenging me, and then I made a plan to improve those things.

I realized that I had not taken any time to celebrate my accomplishments before moving to the next “thing” on my list. The constant pushing and striving caught up to me and left me feeling totally and completely spent.

In need of a rapid improvement plan, I left my house, hair undone, natural face with a t-shirt and shorts on, and I found a swing.

I swung until my heart was content, tension released, and contentment filled my spirit.

I know it sounds simple, but sometimes that is all you need to change the energy and momentum around you.

From this experience, I learned that just like I schedule those 4:45am treadmill sessions, I need to schedule celebration sessions too.

(Let me warn you ahead of time. The audio within this video is LOUD. In addition to humming, you will also hear the sound of traffic passing by. If you are in a quiet setting, proceed with caution!)

So what am I celebrating?

💫 Completing Professional and Executive Coaching Training Intensive through the CaPP Institute

💫 Completing Equity in Contracting Training through CPCC

💫 Acceptance into the Women’s Entrepreneurship Program at

eCornell University and completing my first course with a perfect score.

💫 Becoming a member of ForbesBLK

💫 Acceptance into the 2023-24 Milestone Circles Program at the Nasdaq Entrepreneurial Center

💫 Gaining two new coaching clients

After taking a moment to reflect, I realize that I have a lot to celebrate (I am sure that I left something off of my list).

Celebrations are important.

If you have a hard time celebrating your achievements, you are not alone, but just like I hit a brick wall last week from overwhelm and exhaustion, you can too.

Let’s hold one another accountable for showing up as our best self by taking important moments to celebrate.

I invite you to join the Origins of Peace Community by visiting http://www.originsofpeace.com.

You will receive a bi-monthly newsletter and priority notice of events and happenings within the community.

Make Peace A Priority,

Melissa
