Keeping Me Together

Dear Lord,

Thank you for keeping me together this week. I appreciate the love and patience that you have given me. With your help I’ve accomplished so much. I appreciate the focus and collaboration with others that has helped me to meet my goals this week. I owe it all to you. As I close out this work week, I am thankful for an opportunity to rest. Thankful for the moments that I can spend with my family and enjoy the fruits of my labor. Thank you for making it all possible Lord.  This is my prayer today, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

God Is Listening

God’s there, listening for all who pray, for all who pray and mean it… Psalm 145:18 The Message

Dear Lord, thank you for never turning a deaf ear to me. Even in those times when I ramble and fuss you always hear me and understand the meaning. It is a blessing to have this connection with you and I do not take it lightly. I pray for increased discernment to help me stay on track and to eliminate the worries that make me anxious. As I start this day, I am determined to listen for you too. I will keep my ears open to hear the signs and wonders of your love. Thank you for loving me through my uncertainty and insecurity. I love you and thank you. This is my prayer, in Jesus’ Name. Amen

Reconnecting with You

Reading is an excellent way to gain new perspectives and insights. During the first quarter of 2024, I am reading several books to assist me with curbing procrastination, embracing authenticity and effectively managing negative emotions. Since the first core value of Origins of Peace is Mentality Clarity, it is only right that I take this time to gain insight and share the valuable knowledge that I hope to gain, with you.

To start with, “The 12 Week Year” is a great choice for anyone looking to improve their productivity and overcome procrastination. The book provides a practical framework for setting goals and achieving them within a shorter timeframe, which can help you stay focused and motivated.

“The Courage to Be Disliked” is a unique self-help book that draws on the principles of Adlerian psychology to encourage readers to embrace their own individuality and let go of the need for external validation. This can help you develop a more authentic sense of self and build stronger relationships with others.

Lastly, “Managing Negative Emotions” is a valuable resource for anyone looking to cultivate a more positive mindset. The book provides practical strategies for dealing with difficult emotions such as anxiety, anger, and depression, which can help you feel more balanced and resilient.

If you find any of the titles that I’ve shared interesting, please let me know, and I will set up a virtual book club for us. Happy reading!

Run It Back

I’m not sure if I shared this already but my theme word for 2024 is Authentic. As I sit and reflect on all that this word represents for me in 2024, I am reminded of where it all began as a means to being my authentic self, going forward.

On April 20, 2011, I published my first Blog Post. I simply wanted a space to express what was on my mind and heart. At that time, I was experiencing some personal challenges that required me to release and relinquish my “I AM Superwoman” tendencies, and really trust God to do a miraculous thing in my life.

My first post was entitled, “How Great Is Our God.”

It’s a quick read so be sure to check it out.

I penned this message long before cancer and divorce. Looking back, I think the entire blog was a message of preparation, preparing me for what was coming. The trials that I would experience and overcome and the success that I would achieve.

I say all of this to say, somewhere along the line, my authentic nature to talk about the goodness of God and start each morning with a prayer was replaced with posts about process, tools and the latest corporate trends about blah, blah, blah….

I’ve met some really great people throughout my years of blogging. I can honestly say that I get the most engagement when I post about God’s grace and mercy, and how it shows up for me.

If I am being truly honest with myself, embracing my authenticity means being unapologetically confident in putting God at the forefront, middle and rear of everything that I do. Spirituality is very much one of my origins of peace, and I am determined to embrace it on this blog and in my business going forward.

If you’re unaware, Origins of Peace, LLC was founded on Romans 12:18 which states, “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. We first help you find peace within, and then we help you create more peaceful moments in your daily routine. We do this with intention and creativity.

Starting today, we are walking through the devotional, “Playing in the Dirt.” This is authentically how I want to start each of my days. Knowing that I’ve prayed for myself and then prayed for you, makes me feel good about being prepared for whatever may unfold throughout the day.

Ephesians 3:17-18 – I pray that you, being rooted and firmly established in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the length and width, height and depth of God’s love.

I hope these verses serve as a reminder that there is nothing that God cannot do for you. His love overpowers any challenge or negative circumstance that may pop up in your life. From someone who experienced divorce, cancer and job loss all at the same time…God’s love was big enough to cover me entirely through that challenging time. Even when I thought there was nothing left for me, and nowhere for me to turn. God placed the right people in my life to help me make it through.

My prayer: Today Lord, I am grateful for reconnection. Thank you for bringing your word to my remembrance and helping me reconnect to you.  I’ve been too far removed from you and continuously struggling in my own strength to do things on my own terms. No longer Lord, thank you for reminding me that your word provides safety and shelter when I feel stuck or unsure. Your love provides safety for me to rest and gather my thoughts while basking in all the things that you have made beautiful for me. I love you and I thank you on this day…in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Better Late Than Ugly

It’s the official kickoff of 2024 here at Origins of Peace.

Some may say we’re a little late in showing up, but I say better late than ugly. I am using ugly in the context of feeling anxious, overwhelmed, stressed and unprepared. That is certainly not the vibe that we aim to generate over here. Our intention is to show up with intention, purpose and of course Peace!

I like the feeling of kicking off the year after MLK Jr. Day. The theme of vision and purpose is set, so hey…that’s our que to make a grand entrance.

I wanted to spend a few minutes to re-introduce myself and let you know what Origins of Peace is all about.

I am Melissa Rivers, Creative Peace Coach and Founder of Origins of Peace, LLC. My mission is to help individuals close the gap between conflict and peace personally and professionally. I created the Peace by Design Coaching Academy where I provide personal development coaching (Peaceful Lifestyle) professional development coaching (Peaceful Profits) and teambuilding workshops (Peaceful Collaborations). You can learn more by visiting my website.

Additionally, I am a Corporate Contractor, certified in facilitation, change management and process improvement. I use these highly sought after skills to develop learning and development courses for corporate clients.

One of my favorite things to do is to empower Survivors of breast cancer. Being a Survivor, I find it very beneficial to stay connected to this community and reach back to offer a hand of support where I can.

Personally, I am on a journey to show up AUTHENTICALLY by investing in my health, finances and relationships. As I strive to be more transparent in my business, some of my personal endeavors might show up in this blog because, it’s all about my origins of peace. We all have them.

I invite you to connect with me on LinkedIn, Instagram and Facebook. All links are listed below. As you go about your day, remember this: “God is with you every step of the way.”

Peace & Blessings for a happy, exciting and peaceful year,

Melissa.

Faith Fuels the Vision

I am definitely one of those people who require more than a board to document my vision.

Years ago, I began creating various tools to document the vision that I could clearly see for myself.

Over the years my vision has progressed from a vision board to a vision tracker, a vision portfolio and most recently a vision station.

I’ve learned that visions are the springboard of all that awaits if we have enough discernment to nurture the vision and do the uncomfortable things to see it progress.

Have you documented your vision for 2024? If not, there’s still time to set your intentions for the new year.

Now is the prime time to declare what you want for each area of your life going forward and the good news is that you can be as basic, or as detailed as you would like, it is totally up to you.

I tend to lean toward the detailed side simply because every aspect of my life is important to me. The work that I do, all the way down to the social activities that I indulge in, it all has meaning.

With Christmas and New Years fast approaching, schedule some downtime to pause, reflect and create your vision.

If you’re in the Charlotte Metro area, the perfect opportunity to create your vision is happening today.

Join The International Center for Wellness and Inspire of the Carolina’s Inc. for a Prayer Board Workshop. You are invited to participate in this safe space of healing and creativity!

You can bring your board or use the supplied materials.

This event is in partnership with Central United Methodist Church Concord, and it takes place on Sunday, December 17th at 3pm sharp.

Please enter at 75 Church Street Concord NC. Do not go to the Union Street entrance please.

I’m making plans to be there, so I hope you will join the fun too. If you come, be sure to say hi!

Peace & Blessings,

Melissa

With Gratitude

Happy Sunday! I hope this post finds you renewed and ready to embrace the week with vibrance and enthusiasm.

Today, the Origins of Peace Team wanted to take a moment to remind you of the incredible power that lies within you, in all of the roles that you fill on a daily basis. It is important to recognize that your best efforts are valued and appreciated.

As you go about your week, it is totally natural to encounter challenges and complications. Remember, to keep your perspective fresh by taking a step back to reevaluate your next steps. If you feel anxious or nervous, embrace vulnerability and growth as necessary parts of your journey.

Creating a routine with peace and purpose requires intentional nurturing, not just strategies and tactics. You have to align your authentic self, your values, and your belief in self to unleash your Origins of Peace! This happens with time and commitment.

This week remember, “you cannot find peace in a place that you do not trust.” Trust yourself to make right decisions for your now and your future. If you feel overwhelmed, take a deep breath and know that you are capable of achieving greatness beyond your imagination.

Place your faith on top of that simple truth.

***Due to scheduling conflicts, our weekly newsletter was not delivered this morning as planned. The good news is that we are consistently working. The lesson learned is that we have a growth opportunity to manage our calendar and time requirements better.

To help remedy this challenge, beginning in September, our newsletter will be delivered twice monthly with content focused on personal and professional development.

Thank you to all who participated in our survey requesting your feedback on what our newsletter content should focus on.

If you have not submitted a survey but would like to, please do so my clicking the link below. It takes less than 60 seconds to complete.

Authenticity Matters

In a world full of AI, Gridlines and Algorithms, showing up as your authentic self still matters.

“When You Show Up Authentically, You Create the Space for Others to Do the Same. Walk in Your Truth” -unknown

During a recent presentation, the meeting organizer stopped me in mid-sentence and said, this is amazing. The colors are so vivid, and your presentation tells a great story. I acknowledged the comment and thanked the organizer for noticing. Her words meant a lot to me because I strive to show up differently in every aspect of my life, business included.

Professionally, the brand of Origins of Peace, LLC is bright colors, vivid photos and transparent stories. I love creating a unique experience of peace through my content, with the hope that it will free you to show up and engage with us in the same manner.

If no one has told you lately, your authenticity matters.

I personally believe that if we hold space for one another, by allowing each other to show up as our unique self, without judgement; corporately we could all breathe a little better.

I challenge you this week to help your neighbor breathe a little easier by being authentic and holding space for them to be authentic too. Here a few things that you can do to accomplish this challenge:

  1. Be intentional with your words
  2. Demonstrate accountability for your actions
  3. Show interest in learning from others
  4. Express your emotions clearly
  5. Look for ways to have fun in the process

It is totally ok to be you. As a matter of fact, God created you because there was a void without you. Never allow the opinions or actions of others to stop you from being authentically you. There are so many obstacles that are put in front of each of us on a daily basis. Don’t get tired or weary in your daily doing. It’s all about the bob and weave method to make it through.

If you’ve been feeling anxious or uneasy about your interactions with others, remember that social anxiety is something that everyone experiences on some level.

Origins of Peace provides coaching services to help you create an action plan to navigate your feelings. Click here to get started.

Make Peace A Priority,

Melissa
